PAUL PRATHER ANNOUNCES CAMPAIGN FOR TULSA CITY COUNCIL
TULSA, OK. –Paul Prather, a fourth-generation Tulsan who has long been active in local government, has announced his campaign for the District Two seat on the Tulsa City Council.
“The City Council needs to regain the strength that was given to it by the City Charter,”said Prather, “but that will not happen without consensus of the strong leaders on the council.”
Prather, whose father, grandfather, and great-grandfather also called Tulsa home, sees our city as one of America’s most unique. “Tulsans love their city,” said Prather, “and not every city can say that. I want to make sure that when individuals come to Tulsa from other cities, states and countries, they see that Tulsa is the most livable city in the entire United States.”
Community service will be nothing new to Prather, as service has long been a theme of the Prather family. As a child, Prather and his siblings were often pulled into the many volunteer projects of their parents. “We would help in whatever small way we could,” recalled Prather. “Whether it was sealing envelopes, wrapping packages, or licking stamps. They taught me that when a person has spare time they should devote that time to helping their community.”
Prather has been a practicing Tulsa attorney since 1990, and served over seven years for the City of Tulsa as Assistant City Attorney and City Council Attorney. During those years, Prather’s work with the City of Tulsa emphasized contracts, zoning, property, and condemnation matters, drafting city ordinances, and litigating class action and civil rights lawsuits.
Prather is currently an attorney at the longtime downtown Tulsa firm of Feldman, Franden, Woodard, Farris & Boudreaux, where his practice focuses on contracts, products liability, and employment cases.
His years of service within the City government, his experience handling complex litigation, and his active role in the Tulsa community give Prather confidence he can help turn around the direction of the city government.
Among his immediate priorities will be the creation of stricter timelines and cost targets for those receiving tax dollars to work on public projects for the City, along with penalties for failure to timely complete city projects. “Citizens should no longer be inconvenienced because the City has failed to make a proper contract,” said Prather.
Prather, a small business owner himself, is committed to taking the steps necessary to help small businesses thrive. “I will insist we repeal regulations and taxes that discourage business expansion,” Prather said. “And we must create strong incentives for homegrown small businesses.”
“Tulsa must find the right leaders who can make the difficult decisions so Tulsa and its citizens will thrive and prosper.”
